Today our two-man team, Alain Bailly and Mike Tommasi, based in France, received notification that it has been selected as finalist for the Little Box Challenge. Organized by Google and the IEEE, the challenge offers a million dollar prize to the team that will pass testing with the smallest 2kW power inverter. Out of 650 teams worldwide, 18 finalists will meet in Denver on 21 October 2015 to hand over their prototypes to NREL labs. Finalists include ETH Zürich-Fraunhofer Institut, EPRI-University of Tennesse Knoxville and CE+T Power. The contest will bring about dramatic technology advances in power electronics.
Alain Bailly and Mike Tommasi are freelance consulting electronics engineers based in the South of France. Our effort was financed personally and independently, we did not request or receive any grants.
UPDATE: we are setting up a power electronics company specialized in high power density and GaN devices. 3NERGY, coming in January 2016.
